Newfoundland and Labrador allows adults to consume cannabis in the comfort of a private dwelling, or yard attached to a private dwelling. It restricts adults from consuming recreational cannabis in a public place, motor vehicle, or boat. 

Depending on the building owner’s decision, you may be able to consume cannabis in hotel rooms or units in apartment buildings, but you cannot consume it in common areas of these buildings. 

You may be able to consume cannabis on a rented campsite, subject to restrictions imposed by the park owner or operator.

How to access

The province’s liquor corporation is responsible for, among other things, buying, importing, and controlling the sale of cannabis. Private retailers are permitted to sell cannabis and government-run online sales.
