Meet the Grower-
Started at Tweed: Oct. 21, 2014
Job Title: Production Assistant
Mary overcame a steep cultural learning curve to adapt to her adopted homeland. After the elderly woman she was to care for in British Colombia passed away while Mary was still on the plane to Canada, she was rerouted to Eastern Ontario. At the airport in Ottawa, she was at a loss for fractions with $160 for food. Convinced that she couldn’t afford an A&W meal, it wasn’t the start she’d hoped for.
From her family’s banana farm in the Philippines to Taiwan, where she used her English fluency and background as a caregiver to emigrate to Canada, her course has been a case study in courage. At Tweed, the same drive that propelled her across the Pacific almost a decade ago has translated over the last two-and-a-half years to professional success in the country’s newest industry. She hasn’t looked back since joining the team here.
Mary started with a part-time job in the processing department that she juggled alongside morning shifts at Tim Hortons before being hired full-time and moved to the pre-pack department. In her second year at Tweed, she was promoted to Production Assistant. Now expecting her first child with the husband she met in Smiths Falls, Mary is temporarily on light duty back in pre-pack, and excited to renew her commitment to cultivating medical cannabis.
