Hope made delicious at Taste For Life event
April 20th is the date to circle for many cannabis enthusiasts. It started as a civil way to disobey the law and force politicians to examine pot laws. With that examination well underway in Canada, perhaps it's time to look past the traditional gathering and jump right to the food! A Taste For Life is a delectable charitable event that is sure to showcase the maturity of the country’s cannabis community.
Currently in its 18th year, A Taste For Life started in Ottawa in 1999 and is now supported by thousands of people at hundreds of restaurants across the country. All money raised goes to support local HIV/AIDS organizations that offer resources, information, education and support to those affected by the illness. The money raised in each community stays local, so your dollars make a difference at home.
Celebrity Canadian comedian Rick Mercer is being counted among proponents of the initiative this year and the CBC star took a break from his usual satire to make a public announcement late last month asking people to “celebrate spring in style by dining out for a great cause.”
A full 25% of the dinner bill will be donated to local HIV/AIDS organizations. We couldn’t think of a better way to spend our 4/20 than with good company over delicious food, and all for a great cause! That’s why the Tweed and Better by Tweed teams have volunteered to play host at the event at three restaurants in communities where we operate.
We’ll be hosting at the 39 Carden Street Bistro in Guelph, where proceeds will be made to the ARCH Guelph. You can catch us in Ottawa, where money raised at il Primo Ristorante will be given to Bruce House and the Snowy Owl AIDS Foundation. Tweed staff will also play host to patrons of La Piazza Allegra in Hamilton, where proceeds from the event will go to the Hamilton AIDS Network.
To come join us for A Taste For Life, all you have to do is choose where you and your group will dine and make a reservation for that restaurant. Either join our team at one of the restaurants mentioned above, or find a participating restaurant in your area at www.atasteforlife.org. Make reservations early so that you’re guaranteed a spot and when you do, please let the hostess know you are coming for A Taste For Life.
Just by eating at the restaurant, 25% of your bill will automatically be donated, so you really can’t go wrong. Personal donations can also be made at the event, for which a tax receipt will be issued. Last year a large percentage of the funds raised came from additional contributions. Also remember, you can win one of the prize packs that will be raffled off at each participating restaurant simply for dining out.
To attend the event in Ottawa at il Primo Restaurant, RSVP to 613.234.6858. If you are planning to join A Taste For Life in Guelph, you can RSVP to 519.262.8338. And, last but not least, if you are in the Hamilton area and want to attend the 4:20 event at La Piazza Allegra, please RSVP to 905-777-8970.
Here’s to Future Growth!
